The Background, Vision & Strategy

In 2015, a team of Des Moines-area dedicated volunteers, seeking a world without cancer, came together to establish a local 5K Walk/Run. Our goal was to provide awareness and financial support for patients and families impacted specifically by blood cancer. Since our inception and with the help of even more volunteers, supporters and businesses, our organization has experienced tremendous demand from the cancer community. To match the growing needs, in 2020 the organization determined it was time to expand!

Family Cancer Network (FCN) is carrying forward the founding mission to help families dealing with blood cancer and is expanding its impact by extending support to those touched by pediatric cancers (inclusive of those 1-18 years of age). We remain true to our roots of providing financial assistance to cancer patients and families in need of support and services.

Our vision is to be a leading organization raising funds, awareness and support for cancer programs, patients and their families. We long for a future with no cancer and consequently, one without the collateral damage that the disease brings.

Our success continues to be grounded in the countless hours of volunteer service from the people and sponsors who are committed to making a tangible difference in the lives of families battling cancer. Our efforts would not be remotely possible without the support of these volunteers and sponsors. We are grateful, and hopeful as we all look to a future without cancer!
