This signature event of FCN has become a premier 5K Run/Walk event in the Des Moines, Iowa area. Our race entrants join us year after year because this event is fun and emotionally moving. It is a family friendly event, including activities for children, great food and beverage AND the best part of all—several of our grant recipients and their families join us to share their stories. It is a day filled with fun, support and a true sense of community.

This year will look a bit different as the Blood, Sweat and Beers 5K transforms from an in-person race to a virtual running event. We are really excited to share this journey with you and make an even bigger impact to the surrounding community!

The last six months have been more unplanned than anything we could have ever imagined. There is an overwhelming sense of sadness for all that has been lost, and abounding uncertainty in the collective unknown to come.

However, we know one truth to remain certain.

Countless men, women, and children continue to receive blood and/or pediatric cancer diagnoses. Families endure their ongoing battles against an already life altering disease, now with the added stress and risk of COVID-19, especially as many cancer patients are immunocompromised.

We know going virtual is not ideal, but the safety of our community is our number one priority. These patients are people, like you and us, trying to take care of themselves and their families. Now, more than ever, they need our help. Our founding purpose was, and still remains true, to help patients and families with the “collateral damage” they face in the wake of a blood and/or pediatric cancer diagnosis.
